The “F” word is almost here, Fall activities for your students

Well, it is almost here, Fall. It is a great time of year. There are lots of things to do in Maine in the Fall.

I will share some that we have done in the past that we really enjoyed.

There are lots of apple picking, hay ride places around the state that you could go on  your own or organize a group to go, you sometimes get discounts that way.

One in particular that we liked because they give you a lot of things to do, corn maze, wagon ride, apple picking, petting zoo and more is Treworgy Orchards in Levant. They have great service as well and are wonderful with the variety of ages that tend to go for a homeschool fieldtrip.Fall

There are many orchards around that all offer different activities. Click here for a directory of apple orchards around Maine.

The Desert of Maine is open until the 16th of October, this is a pretty cool trip and there are lots of other things to do after the tour.

Leonards Mills in Bradley is a great  option to get a lot of Maine history, they are open until October as well.

The Maine Wildlife Park is open until Veterans Day. I have never been here but they say it is awesome. I may be setting one up soon, they are located in Gray.

Coles Land Transportation Museum is an interesting place to visit. The have lots of things that you can climb on and some that you cannot. They give the students a scavenger hunt sheet that is lots of fun. Their schedule varies so check the website. hpim1749_4013614191_oDonn Fendler will be coming this week I think Sept 19th. Yes Saturday the 19th Donn Fendler will be there most of the day. Now there is some Maine studies for you! It looks like they are open until November 11th this  year.

There are many more things to choose from depending on how long you want to drive and what you want to do, what lessons you are doing, etc. There are many parameters to consider. Field trips are fun but can be stressful if you over plan. So, look at your options and make choices according to your needs.

The Homeschool Co-op offers an extensive list of Maine field trips here. Get out and enjoy fall in Maine. I know you have just gotten started with  your schooling, most of you anyways, but the winters are so long and the summers so short, there is plenty of time to get the book work in.

If you have questions about how to get started homeschooling, what the laws are, and what will you need to do it, just stop by Guilford Christian Academy in Dover Foxcroft and they will be more than happy to help you with your questions.

Happy Homeschooling.
